OCR Studio Trademarks One-Shot KYC – a New Approach to Frictionless Onboarding
OCR Studio has secured UAE trademark protection for One-shot KYC, its single-capture technology for ID scanning and face matching designed to make remote onboarding faster and easier for users. The solution combines ID data extraction and selfie-to-ID checks which are relevant for banks, fintech companies, telecom operators, marketplaces, and other digital services that need to verify whether the presenter is the legitimate document owner. Registering One-shot KYC as a separate trademark represents the company’s first step toward establishing a new market standard for frictionless onboarding.

Instead of requiring separate photos of the customer and their identity document, One-shot KYC only asks for a single selfie with an ID of any type and format. From that one image, the solution extracts the required document data, detects the ID portrait, and compares it with the customer’s face. Rather than returning a simple binary “match / no match” result, the system provides a face similarity score, allowing businesses to make more flexible risk-based decisions.
The entire process runs locally on the user’s smartphone, tablet, or desktop. The solution can be integrated into both mobile applications and browsers, where it operates using the WebAssembly technology. ID scanning and face matching are performed without sending the document image, customer selfie, or extracted personal data to any external systems. One-shot KYC does not depend on cloud computing or biometric databases and can run without an internet connection, helping businesses keep sensitive identity data under their control, maintain stable onboarding even with poor connectivity, and enhance compliance with stringent data protection requirements.
One-shot KYC is also optimized for real-world conditions in which remote onboarding actually happens. The technology remains reliable with handheld and angled documents, poor lighting, glare and reflections, blur, camera movement, and low resolution. The solution is designed to perform consistently across different genders, skin tones, ethnic backgrounds, ages, and nationalities – enabling the same onboarding flow to serve customers across markets worldwide.
The One-shot KYC trademark was registered by the UAE Ministry of Economy & Tourism in Classes 9 and 42, covering software, technological, and authentication services. The solution supports over 4,000 document templates issued across 240+ jurisdictions in more than 100 languages. One-shot KYC can already be tested in the OCR Studio Web Demo, allowing companies to evaluate the technology’s performance before purchasing it.
