OCR Studio to Present Age Verification System That Detects Date-of-Birth Manipulations at GITEX AI Europe
OCR Studio, a developer of anti-fraud solutions, will debut an on-device ID-based age verification system that detects document collages – one of the most difficult forms of document fraud for existing age assurance systems to identify. Such attacks preserve most of a genuine identity document while replacing only a small but high-value date of birth field. The company will present the system for the first time at GITEX AI Europe, taking place at Messe Berlin on June 30 – July 1, 2026.

Europe is moving from general online child-safety principles toward concrete age assurance requirements. The European Commission now identifies age verification as a key safeguard for preventing minors from accessing age-inappropriate digital content. In Germany, the host country of GITEX AI Europe, providers of certain categories of harmful online content are already legally required to ensure that their services are accessible only to age-verified adults.
One of the most difficult-to-detect ways to bypass ID-based age checks is to alter only the date-of-birth field in an otherwise genuine document image. The replacement date can be copied from another genuine ID, creating a document collage that appears consistent at first glance. The technical difficulty of detecting such local changes was demonstrated by the DeepID Challenge at ICCV 2025. When researchers tested sophisticated manipulations affecting only small fields such as the birth date, expiry date, first name, or last name, none of the evaluated methods performed better than chance.
OCR Studio researchers have overcome this challenge by developing an age verification system that analyzes not only individual fields but also the overall visual consistency of the identity document. Its neural network identifies local anomalies by determining whether a particular region differs from the surrounding image structure. From a single document photo, the system detects signs of tampering, extracts the date of birth from the authenticated document, and automatically calculates whether the holder meets the required age threshold. By covering both document authenticity checks and age calculation, the system helps prevent minors from gaining access to age-restricted digital services and content.
The entire verification process runs locally on the user’s smartphone, tablet, or computer and does not require an internet connection. Document images and personal data are neither stored nor transmitted to clouds, crowdsourcing platforms, or external servers. This helps businesses implement privacy-first age verification while maintaining full control over personal data. The system’s on-device architecture is designed to support compliance with GDPR and other European and international data protection requirements. The solution will be unveiled at OCR Studio’s booth H1.2-28 during GITEX AI Europe.
