Recap of MWC Barcelona 2026: Top 3 OCR Studio Technologies Visitors Were Most Amazed by
MWC Barcelona 2026, the leading international exhibition for the mobile communications industry, has come to an end after four intense days. At Fira Gran Via, Spain’s largest fair venue, the event brought together 100,000+ visitors and 2,900 companies from 200+ countries. In spite of the difficulties currently affecting international travel, OCR Studio made its way to Barcelona to demonstrate cutting-edge technologies that definitely caught everyone’s eye. In today’s blog post, we highlight the top 3 breakthrough OCR solutions that drew the crowd to our stand and amazed the attendees the most.
The World’s First AI System for ID Scanning on AR Glasses
This year, at MWC Barcelona, the OCR Studio team showcased the first-ever AI system that can independently scan IDs, documents of any type, and machine-readable objects directly on AR glasses. Unlike many other products on the market, the solution does not rely on clouds, external servers, or crowdsourcing platforms and does not need internet connection to operate. The company’s specialists made this possible with ultra-lightweight neural networks tailored for devices with extremely limited computational resources.
Throughout the four-day event, MWC Barcelona attendees kept noticing our AI-powered glasses from across the hall and came over to try them in action. Visitors could test the technology on the document and bank card samples we brought — the scanning was enabled by simply looking at any text or object, and the recognition results appeared right in the lenses. Beyond the “wow effect”, the real value is practical. The system can extract data from ID documents from 250+ countries and issuers, validate the document holder’s age, identify the issuing state, and detect signs of tampering, streamlining verification workflows across hospitality, retail, fintech, and logistics.

Anti-Forgery System for Detecting Deepfakes and AI Fraud
The second technology that drew sustained interest was the enhanced version of our flagship document forensics system — OCR ID-verify. The updated OCR ID-verify detects a broader range of fraud schemes, including the ones with AI-generated and morphed photos. This matters because ID document fraud includes hundreds of different forgery types — from classic physical manipulations to advanced digital fakes used to bypass verification systems in remote channels.
At our booth, visitors actively tested OCR ID-verify and were genuinely surprised by its key feature — the entire on-device architecture that enables anti-fraud checks directly on a smartphone’s CPU. Attendees took pictures of the identity document samples, and the system returned the results for every field it scanned — any signs of tampering were correctly flagged. The system even performed data cross-validation by comparing information from the VIZ, MRZ, and the NFC chip, commonly used in biometric passports and other eIDs. Taken together, this transformed our visitors’ smartphones into universal tools for highly accurate forgery detection.

Browser-Based OCR for Web Environments
The third “crowd favorite” was an OCR system that brings ID, payment card, and barcode scanning directly into any popular browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, etc.) with no apps or plugins to install. Built with the WebAssembly (Wasm) technology, the solution enables high-performance recognition in web environments while keeping processing on the end-user’s device rather than sending images to external parties. This helps fintech companies, telecom operators, government agencies, and cryptocurrency exchanges create secure, smooth, and responsive web services.
Visitors at our booth could test this technology through OCR Studio’s web demo, which allowed them to scan identity documents (including the machine-readable zone), QR codes, debit and credit cards. The system’s architecture ensures compatibility even with low-power devices, making advanced OCR accessible across diverse hardware environments.

Next Stop: GITEX AI ASIA
For OCR Studio, MWC Barcelona became the first event in its 2026 exhibition season. However, in just a month, we will take part in GITEX AI ASIA, the region’s largest technological event, taking place 9-10 April 2026 at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. See you there — and thank you for the attention our technologies received at MWC Barcelona.
