GITEX GLOBAL 2025 Recap: Multi-Level OCR ID-scan and 18-Wheel Semi-Truck

This year GITEX GLOBAL marked its 45th edition at the Dubai World Trade Centre with over 40 exhibition halls, 2 000 startups, 1 200 investors, and 6 800 tech enterprises representing 180 nations. This is the world’s biggest tech event where founders annually unveil their next-gen innovations across AI, cloud computing, big data, cybersecurity, biotech, and other segments. The exhibition was held from 13 to 17 October 2025, allowing companies to showcase their latest technologies throughout the five days.

The OCR Studio team also took part in GITEX GLOBAL 2025, where we presented our advanced OCR solutions as well as our recently announced technology for multi-level ID verification on smartphones and tablets with full ePassport NFC chip reading. These innovations were showcased at our branded stand – attendees were given a special opportunity to try them in real-time with any of 20+ synthesized document templates we brought.

Below, we walk through our showcased technologies, tell more about our visitor’s live demo experience, and explain why there was an 18-wheel semi-truck at our stand.

The Latest Technologies We Presented at GITEX 2025

• Multi-level ID scanning with NFC verification. Our headline showcase, which enables the next-level confirmation of ID document authenticity while all computations are processed directly on the end-user’s mobile phone or tablet. The system instantly conducts document integrity checks and cross-validates data from the Visual Inspection Zone (VIZ), the Machine-Readable Zone (MRZ), and the NFC chip. The latter also contains the holder’s information, including nationality, name, document number, photo, etc. The information on the chip is protected by a cryptographic signature, which assures that it was issued by the legitimate authority and has not been altered since production. The technology supports any passport or ID card compliant with the international ISO and ICAO standards.
• Browser-based ID scanning with live selfie match. One of the most recent OCR ID-scan improvements that enables ID recognition and selfie-to-ID photo verification directly on a web page in any popular browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, etc.) with no apps or plugins to install. This security solution confirms that the person is physically present and is the legitimate holder, protecting companies from presentation attacks (spoofing). The technology is powered by WebAssembly (Wasm), providing secure document processing and a consistent user experience on desktop, tablet, and mobile.
• Industrial OCR for harsh environments. A recently launched technology specifically designed for document scanning in industrial settings. It is capable of reading license plates, vehicle identification numbers (VINs), utility meters, shipping container IDs, seal numbers, and machine-readable objects of any kind. The software extracts data in a matter of seconds even under challenging conditions like extreme image angles, low-visibility, and heavily obscured text.

Furthermore, our technologies can recognize barcodes, bank cards, and documents from 250+ issuers in over 100 languages, including not only Latin-based but also Arabic, Persian, Chinese, Japanese, and more. The software operates locally without an internet connection and transmits no data – a crucial advantage for companies in fintech, healthcare, telecom, and the public sector.

OCR Studio’s Stand: Live Demo Experience

At our stand (H26-A80), visitors could test all mentioned OCR technologies themselves. We invited GITEX attendees to open a demo web page on a smartphone and scan any document with the phone's front or rear camera to extract information from the VIZ, MRZ, and the NFC chip, as well as check its authenticity. The selfie-to-ID photo verification was also available – guests could find out how similar they are compared to the synthesized ID document holder. Visitors’ biometric descriptors were not saved, nor were they transmitted off-device – all computations were possible even with airplane mode on.

Apart from the document templates, we had an 18-wheel semi-truck and an SUV models at our stand. With Industrial OCR guests could instantly recognize their license plates and the truck's shipping container number from almost any angle. Moreover, we offered our visitors the chance to try smart glasses with an embedded OCR module that allows to extract data from the shipping container seals with high accuracy.
