MWC Barcelona 2026, the leading international exhibition for the mobile communications industry, is taking place this week (from 2 to 5 March) at Fira Gran Via, Spain’s largest fair venue. The event brings together 100,000+ visitors and 2,900 companies from 200+ countries and is expected to generate €585 million in economic impact. That scale is also reflected in the exhibitors list — Google, Huawei, Samsung, and Microsoft are just a few examples.
OCR Studio is taking part in MWC Barcelona as well — the event has opened our 2026 exhibition season. This week we are showcasing our latest breakthroughs in optical character recognition and identity document authentication. More about this in today’s blog post.
Our headline showcase is an AI system that enables scanning of identity documents and machine-readable objects directly on smart glasses without transmitting any data. The key feature of this «wearable AI» is its ability to perform recognition entirely on-device, without an internet connection, while operating on processors with extremely limited computational resources.
With this AI technology, AR glasses become a versatile device that extracts data from ID documents from 250+ countries and issuers. By recognizing ID cards, passports, or drivers’ licenses, the system can estimate the document holder’s age, identify the issuing state, and detect signs of tampering, allowing businesses to conduct KYC procedures. In total, it covers more than 4,000 document templates used across border control, banking, fintech, logistics, and other workflows.
MWC attendees are given a special opportunity to test a prototype of the AI-powered AR glasses and ensure how accurately they recognize text and objects in their field of view.
At MWC Barcelona 2026, we are also presenting the updated OCR ID-verify — our flagship document forensics system now enhanced to detect a broader range of fraud schemes. The new version spots forgeries with substituted fields and photos, masked data blocks, composited image fragments, and injected foreign elements. This helps businesses reliably expose document fraud, including AI-driven deepfake and morphing-style attacks, during KYC and client onboarding.
Just as importantly, OCR ID-verify runs entirely on the end user’s device and transmits no data to clouds, external servers, or crowdsourcing platforms. This approach helps businesses protect themselves from vendor-side data breaches and meet stringent regulatory requirements for personal data processing. For instance, such regulations are set by Spain’s Organic Law 3/2018 on the Protection of Personal Data and Guarantee of Digital Rights (LOPDGDD) and Europe’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Alongside the mentioned demonstrations, we are showcasing our previously launched technologies — one of them is an AI system for KYC and customer onboarding in the web environments. It enables loan processing, bank card activation, and other services in any popular browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, etc.) with no apps or plugins to install.
OCR Studio’s team achieved this through the WebAssembly technology and our own ultra-lightweight neural networks which make all these day-to-day operations available at a near-native speed. Like our other systems, this one was designed based on a privacy-first approach. Thus, personal information and identity document images are not stored or transmitted to third parties.
MWC Barcelona is also where many enterprises look for the «real-world» automation tools. Considering this demand, we present our Industrial OCR, a technology designed for harsh industrial settings where standard OCR systems fall short. It is able to read license plates, VIN numbers, utility meters, shipping container IDs, and other machine-readable objects while remaining robust to extreme weather conditions, poor lighting, dirt, and heavily obscured text.
This week, attendees can test our Industrial OCR on a semi-truck model and the shipping container seals we brought.
OCR Studio develops powerful and secure ID, document, and barcode scanning solutions that streamline customer onboarding, enhance regulatory compliance, and help to reduce the human factor across industries.
MWC Barcelona 2026 runs until 5 March, so you still have time to visit us at the stand 6E80 — our experts are on-site throughout the event and are glad to showcase any of the mentioned technologies!
