How to Check the Accuracy of OCR Solutions: Walkthrough for Our Web Demo

Recently, OCR Studio released a Web Demo where everyone can try browser-based scanning of identity documents and machine-readable objects, including bank cards and barcodes. The demo allows you to check how accurate our on-device solutions are and test the recognition on your own documents. The whole process takes no more than a couple of seconds and is entirely secure as no data is stored or transmitted off your device. The Web Demo is free and you do not need to fill up registration forms and install any apps or plugins to try it.

In-browser OCR is possible thanks to our ultra-lightweight, highly optimized neural networks and the WebAssembly technology. Currently, the Web Demo supports identity documents of MENA, East Asian, GCC, and EU countries. In today’s blog post we present a step-by-step guide to the demo – check it out below.

Step 1: Open Our Web Demo

Click the link to open the Web Demo. You can use any browser you like: Safari, Chrome, Firefox, etc. The demo is device-independent and works even on low-budget smartphones, tablets, and laptops.

Step 2: Choose the Issuing Country of Your ID

You can choose a specific country or click the “Auto-Selection” button – the latter automatically determines your document type. The Web Demo supports identity documents issued in UAE, Saudi Arabia, China, France, Germany, Spain, and many other countries.

Step 3: Click “OK”

The Web Demo needs your permission to use the device’s camera during ID scanning. After you click “OK” the demo will neither store nor transmit any of your data to clouds, external servers, or crowdsourcing platforms – the recognition runs entirely on the CPU of your device.

Step 4: Point Your Camera at a Document 

Make sure that the document is visible in the pop-up window and click “Capture”. You can also import an image or scan of your document. Please note that neither images nor live camera footage is transmitted anywhere – your data always remains with you as ID scanning is performed exclusively on your device.

Step 5: Receive the Extracted Data

After a couple of seconds your identity document will be recognized and you will see all the extracted data in the corresponding structured fields. The system precisely extracts even a document holder’s photo and the signature.

What Else You Can Test in Our Web Demo

In addition to IDs, you can scan various machine-readable objects in our Web Demo.  On the main page choose what object you want to scan: QR-code, identity document’s MRZ, or payment card. The demo supports barcodes, MRZs, and bank cards of any format. After recognition is completed, you will see the data extracted with the highest accuracy.

In future updates, OCR Studio plans to expand the Web Demo’s document coverage to include US states as well as other MENA, East Asian, and European countries.
