Support for All Languages Used Across Europe
OCR Studio supports identity documents from all 27 EU Member States, as well as non-EU European countries such as the UK, Switzerland, Türkiye, Norway, Serbia, and others. The system recognises all 24 official EU languages alongside additional languages used in non-EU European markets.
This broad coverage means that businesses do not need to select and integrate separate OCR solutions for different customer groups. By choosing OCR Studio, companies can use one system to onboard customers with different document types across Europe.
In total, OCR Studio recognises documents in 103 languages and supports identity documents issued across more than 250 countries and territories. Even when a European business works with customers from outside the region, it can provide a consistent and seamless onboarding experience through the same technology.
Multi-Script OCR: Even More Than Language Support
OCR Studio recognises all scripts used in European identity documents, including Latin, Cyrillic, Greek, Armenian, and Georgian. While many OCR vendors focus mainly on European languages written in the Latin alphabet, our technology goes further by supporting complex non-Latin scripts within the same recognition workflow.
This is especially important for cross-border KYC when a company may need to process a French passport, a Bulgarian identity card, a Greek residence permit, an Armenian passport, and a Georgian ID without switching between different recognition products.
For our GITEX AI Europe booth, we brought synthetic samples of identity documents from different European countries, allowing visitors to test our system’s accuracy themselves.
Designed for Europe’s Strict Data-Protection Environment
The European KYC market is known for strict requirements governing the processing and protection of personal data. Under the GDPR, serious infringements can result in fines of up to €20 million or 4% of a company’s total worldwide annual turnover, whichever is higher.
OCR Studio helps businesses address this challenge through a privacy-first processing architecture. Our solutions can operate directly on the end user’s device or within the company’s secure infrastructure.
Neither document images nor personal data extracted during KYC need to be stored or transmitted to cloud platforms, external servers, or crowdsourcing services. This gives companies direct control over where sensitive identity data is processed and helps them build workflows aligned with European data-protection principles.
What About Age Assurance
This was one of the questions we heard most frequently during both days of the exhibition, which is hardly surprising as age assurance is becoming an increasingly important issue for European companies operating digital platforms and age-restricted services. In countries including France, Germany, Italy, the UK, Spain, and Ireland, certain categories of online services already face binding age-verification, age-assurance, or adult-only access obligations.
The system we presented at GITEX AI Europe also addresses this task. From a single image of an identity document, it can extract the date of birth, calculate whether the user meets the required age threshold, and check the document for signs of manipulation.
The technology can identify difficult local alterations, including document collages in which only a date-of-birth field, a small document region, or even a single digit has been changed. This helps European companies keep minors away from age-restricted content and services without creating unnecessary verification difficulties for legitimate adult users.
Recently, we enhanced our flagship document forensics system, OCR ID-verify, with deepfake detection capabilities, equipping it to address Europe’s growing AI-driven fraud threat. The updated system exposes identity documents that have been fully or partially generated or manipulated using modern AI models, including ChatGPT, Nano Banana, Grok, Midjourney, and more than 20 others.
Instead of relying only on visible mistakes or logical inconsistencies, the technology analyses the underlying structure of the document image and detects low-level artefacts left by image generation and editing algorithms. This enables it to expose sophisticated fake documents even when they appear realistic to the human eye.

Reading RFID/NFC Chips in European Electronic IDs
Contactless RFID/NFC chips are widely used in European ePassports and other electronic identity documents, and to process them, OCR Studio offers a specialised NFC Chip Reading SDK. The SDK extracts the information stored in the chip, including personal details and the document holder’s photo. It can then compare this information with the data extracted from the document’s visual inspection zone and machine-readable zone.
This cross-validation creates an additional layer of protection against forged and manipulated documents. If information in the visible document image does not match the chip data, the system can identify the inconsistency during the verification process.
GITEX Is Over. What Comes Next
GITEX AI Europe has come to an end, and the exhibition gave us a valuable opportunity to demonstrate how OCR Studio adapts its technology to the specific needs of European KYC.
Throughout both days, visitors gathered at our booth to test document recognition and ask for demonstrations of the different capabilities we discussed in today’s blog post. The strong interest confirmed that European companies are looking not only for accurate OCR, but also for multi-script coverage, local data processing, age assurance, document forensics, and protection against emerging AI-assisted fraud.
